THE PERFORMANCE AND EFFICIENCY ASSESSMENT OF LEADING DEPOSIT BANKS IN TÜRKİYE

In developing countries such as Türkiye, the banking sector is one of the fundamental drivers of economic growth and development. Banks support business growth through mechanisms of capital accumulation and credit provision, encourage investment and play a crucial role in employment creation. The widespread availability of financial services provided by banks also increases individuals’ tendency to save and invest, thereby contributing to macroeconomic stability. In addition, banks’ key role in foreign trade increases foreign exchange earnings, and their efforts to promote financial inclusion have a positive impact on levels of prosperity and sustainable development. Banks play these and many other critical roles in economies. However, continuous monitoring and analysis of these institutions is necessary because problems in the banking sector can have devastating effects on national economies. Based on this necessity, this study examines deposit-taking banks operating in Türkiye, which has recently experienced economic challenges, using CAMELS and Grey Relational Analysis methods based on size and ownership structure. The findings of the study provide valuable information for those who are interested in finance, particularly academicians, bank managers and graduate students.
